Witnessing a full blown aurora storm, is something you soon won't forget; and as you are sitting all alone in a very quiet, very dark area of the wilderness, where no light pollution is present, it will only a take a moment for your senses to be overwhelmed. Starting out out as a small glow in the northern sky, in the area of the big dipper, only moments seem to pass before it takes over the whole sky, with vertical rays shooting up here and there, never knowing where they will appear next. Occasionally big blobs of light flash rapidly like warning beacons across the sky, creating an almost daytime effect. Words do little justice when trying to describe such a spectacle, and it is at this moment that you realize it will take more than a few paragraphs to truly convey what you are seeing and feeling. I have been fortunate to witness many such events and on many occasions have heard wolves howling and birds singing, as if to celebrate this breathtaking light show. You might see many types of aurorae, there are curtains which move side to side, sometimes rays that shoot straight up changing some are big blobs of light seem to appear from nowhere, and then in a moment the magic is over, the storm now passed.
